Technology- a coin with two sides

The thing that I found interesting in the readings for this week is the challenge brought by technology. I think technology to the development of non-profits is like a coin.

One the one side, technology can really help an organization grow in a most efficient way. The staff in the organization can choose to use face book, twitter, and other sorts of medium ways to publicize its organization, attracting more donor and volunteers. Besides, as the non-profit sector develops, different organizations are involved together in a network. They might want to share things like information, resources, and equipment to save time, money, and effort. The more complicated the network grows; the more important it is for the organizations to use the technology to find what they need and figure out a way to get it. So the organization that takes good advantage of technology will enjoy the benefits brought about by technology.

However, on the other hand, technology can also be a burden for small non-profits. For the starters in the non-profits sector, they don’t have much money. In consequence, they may not be able to enjoy all the benefits that advanced technology can bring about because they cannot afford it. Therefore, technology can cause difficulty for the non-profit starters to grow, while the big non-profits become bigger and bigger. As a result, there would be a lack of fresh blood coming into the non-profit sector.

  1. September,

You're right about the challenges that the smaller non-profits face regarding technology and it's possible burden. However, our generation needs to come to the forefront and be as innovative as possible to find ways to promote our organizations at little cost.

This is exactly what Professor Campbell is challenging us with in our first assignment this semester. Both the existing and non-existing non-profits face similar challenges because funds are scarce for all organizations. It's up to us to find ways and to overcome these challenges.
